Maui
The red and green island that is called Maui!
While visiting Maui you may periodically hear the popular phrase "Maui no ka `oi" - which simply translates to "Maui is the best." These sentiments are often echoed by Maui`s many visitors as well as Maui locals.
Popular attractions on Maui include watching the sunrise atop the summit of Haleakala, watching humpback whales off the coast of the island, taking the scenic drive on the "Road to Hana" or simply laying out on one of Maui`s tranquil beaches. Besides Maui`s favorite attractions, visitors are enchanted by the island`s natural beauty.
The western and southern shores of Maui are known to boast some of the best beaches in Maui. These shores are also ideal for swimming, scuba diving or surfing. The safe tranquil waters of beaches such as Kapalua Beach make it safe and ideal for the average swimmer or non-swimmer, as well as for small children.
Visitors often flock to Hekili Point to collect “Maui Diamonds,” the small quartz like crystals that can be found in the sand. Others flock to the Kihei-Wailea coast for a great surfing experience. Summer conditions on the Kihei-Wailea coast are ideal for novice surfers; however winder conditions can be downright dangerous for the inexperienced. During winter months, from November to April, waves can reach as high as 35 feet and sometimes way over. Another prominent Maui winter attraction is Whale Watching, as hundreds of whales gather just offshore the coast of Maui to spawn in the nutrient rich warm waters during the winter months.
The vibrant colors and the tranquil nature of the island makes Maui the ideal vacation destination for nature lovers and enthusiasts.
