World Famous Surfing Locations on Oahu
Surfing is a fun and exhilarating activity and surfers can be spotted on numerous beaches throughout Oahu. Hawaii in general is the birthplace of surfing, and the North Shore on Oahu is undoubtedly one of the world`s most famous destinations for surfers.
The North Shore is known to possess some of the biggest and most powerful waves during the winter months from November through April, and is a popular destination for surfing thrill seekers. Waves could reach up to 35 feet high during these months. The stretch of coastline between Hale`iwa and Sunset Beach on the North Shore, called "Seven Mile Miracle" comprises many of the more prominent surfing locations, including the famous Banzai Pipeline, Rocky Point and Laniakea.
While the bigger waves can be found on Oahu`s North Shore, the waves along Waikiki Beach are generally calmer throughout the year. Waikiki beach therefore provides excellent surfing conditions for beginners and intermediate surfers alike. There are plenty of kiosks on numerous beaches throughout the island that offers surfing lessons and surfboard rentals. Below are a few videos of surfers surfing on the North Shore. While the videos show spectacular footage, they fade in comparison to being there watching in person.

Oahu Surfing Tips
Hawaii is known to be the birthplace of surfing and the statue above is of Duke Kahanamoku, “the founder of modern surfing” and Hawaii’s most famous surfer. His statue at Kuhio and Waikiki Beach was built to commemorate him as the “father of surfing”. Many local Hawaiians as well as visitors regularly place leis on the statue to honor him. We need not mention that this is a great spot to take pictures. And if you are a surfing enthusiast, you don`t want to leave Oahu without taking a picture with The Duke.
Always spend the time to observe and understand the surfing conditions before you go out. When in doubt about anything always consult with a lifeguard. It is always also recommended that you always surf with a partner, just in case anything goes wrong. Unless you are an extremely experienced surfer, try to avoid dangerous surfing conditions.
Try to leave most valuables locked in your hotel room. Pay close attention to any posted warning signs on the beach and ask a lifeguard when in doubt. Avoid beaches that do not have lifeguards on duty.
