Oahu Waterfalls
Location
Haleiwa, HI
There are numerous waterfalls scattered all over the island of Oahu. Don`t expect anything as huge as the Niagara Falls, but do expect an opportunity to hike through nature, observe the beauty of Oahu, breathe pure fresh air, then to culminate your hike with the ultimate reward for which you started- a breathtaking waterfall.
Certain falls will give you an opportunity to spot rarely seen birds, plants and other animals, some of which can only be found in Hawaii. You will also have an opportunity to swim in shallow pools at the foot of some waterfalls. Some waterfall hikes have fruit trees along its trails, and depending on the season of your visit, you will be able to pic and eat fruits from these trees. For most of the mentioned experiences, a hike to the Waimea Falls is an experience well worth it and is one we highly recommend. Another nice waterfall worth visiting, especially for the hiking experience, is the Manoa Falls.
Oahu Waterfall Tip
Most waterfalls on Oahu require that you do some hiking. As you plan to hike, remember to bring your camera, hiking boots or sneakers, and comfortable clothes. At Waimea Falls, you are able to go for a swim, so you may want to bring a bathing suit. As usual, we recommend you swim only if there are lifeguards on duty. The waterfalls around Oahu are generally small.
The rainier winter months (see the Oahu -geography section) are the best times to see the waterfalls as they are at their fullest and most flowing capacities.
There is usually a charge for entry to the Waimea Falls. Entry to the Manoa Falls is free.
